Huehuete (pronounced way-weh’-tay) Beach is one of
the most spectacular ecological areas in Nicaragua. Game
fishermen are drawn here for the prolific schools of red
snapper, wahoo, and tuna... howler monkeys swing from trees
loaded with local birds such as the Guardabarranco and the
Montezuma oropendula... and a river with hot springs is
found less than 2 kilometers from the beach – in the
low hills at Huehuete’s eastern boundary.

The tropical dry forest of Huehuete starts with lower bush
at the beach front, and rises to about 300 feet on its
southern edge. It harbors a wide variety of flora and
fauna... but Huehuete’s greatest asset is its wide
sand beach. At low tide, the beach measures almost 300 feet
in width – perfect for swimming, beach combing or
body surfing.
Most importantly, Huehuete is flanked to the south by one of Nicaragua’s most unique ecological sites – Chacocente Eco Reserve, where tens of thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles nest and hatch annually.
Location
Huehuete Beach is located about an hour and a half from Nicaragua’s capital city, Managua. World-class infrastructure is now being installed to Huehuete. The much vaunted new ‘Coastal Highway’ will run through the middle of the property and whilst access today is difficult, a new road will link Huehuete to Granada in less than an hour.
